'Messi should have played... Ronaldo would have done'

Argentina were butchered by the press and their own fans following their 6-1 defeat to Spain on Tuesday and now even the injured Lionel Messi has come in for criticism.

Messi missed the game due to a hamstring problem, but that didn't stop him from being on the receiving end.

"Messi doesn't like playing in friendlies. I don't know if he pulled out, but the Argentine public and the spanish public went to see him play. They didn't go to watch Argentina," insisted former 'Albiceleste' goalkeeper Hugo Gatti on 'El Chiringuito TV'.

Things didn't stop there either at Gatti, often known as 'El Loco', brought the Messi v Ronaldo debate into the bargain.

When asked if Messi should have played in the game, Gatti replied: "Definitely. And Ronaldo also would have played."

However, Gatti did take Messi's side when it was put to him that the Barca star picks the Argentina team. "I don't think Messi pickes the team," he responded bluntly.

Once again Messi is criticised for his role with Argentina and this time without even playing.
