Mathieu announces France retirement

Jeremy Mathieu decided to quit the France international team due to his lack of motivation. The Barcelona defender was included in the World Cup qualifier squad but said he doesn't want to play anymore.

He told 'L'Equipe': "I thought quite a bit before ending my international career. I did not refuse the call up, it's just that I wanted to stop".

He added: "I do not have the motivation to continue. I want to devote myself to my club".

He wants to give the young players a chance as he'll be 35 in 2018.

He continued: "I have no regrets. It was not my decision to miss the Euros but there are worse things in life".
