Mascherano: 'Messi is desperate to turn the situation around'

'La Albiceleste' need to win against Nigeria on Tuesday and hope Croatia don't lose to Iceland in the final Group D matches to qualify for the Round of 16. 

Messi has looked out of sorts in both of Argentina's games so far, even having his penalty saved against Iceland.

However, Mascherano has admitted that his team-mate is desperate to turn things around and ensure his nation doesn't suffer a humiliating early exit. 

He told reporters: "Leo is fine. But as a collective, where things don't go as we'd like, we all have our own frustrations. 

"He's human and he has his own frustrations but he's desperate to turn the situation around. He wants to show the world a different image to the one we've shown in the first two games".
