Man Utd target De Ligt involved in hit-and-run car accident

Bayern Munich are on pre-season training in South Korea, but Matthijs de Ligt has stayed in Germany. The Dutch defender is a main target for Manchester United's Ten Hag, with whom he shares nationality, and the board were happy for him to remain in Germany while waiting for the Allianz Arena-Old Trafford negotiations to be settled. However, he made headlines on Friday, and not because of market issues.
The 'Bild' newspaper reports that, leaving the Bavarians' training facility, he was involved in a hit-and-run car accident after he hit a parked car with his Audi Q8 e-tron. Witnesses called the police on seeing what had happened, so the incident had to be sufficiently dramatic to alert those who observed it up close. In fact, it was easy for them to identify the footballer because of his obvious popularity.
After a while, the officers stopped De Ligt's vehicle and took his details in order to process the relevant punishment, which should result in a fine. Legal advisors announced, in the newspaper mentioned in the previous paragraph, that, having tried to escape, the former Ajax player could face a prison sentence, although this would be minimal and always replaceable by a financial fine.
This is the second piece of bad news for De Ligt in the space of a week, as a few days ago the international press reported that Bayern had rejected a bid for him and Noussair Mazraoui. There is still around three weeks left in the transfer window, however, and the Mancunian side board is expected to keep the door open for him to join this season.
