Man City trigger Gundogan’s one-year contract extension

Good news for Manchester City is piling up. After the Cityzens came from behind against Crystal Palace to move closer to securing Champions League football next season, Guardiola confirmed that Gundogan's contract will not expire this summer. 

“What's going to happen I don't know, but he has one more year contract now,” he said. In doing so, the Spanish coach confirmed that the club have triggered the clause in the midfielder's contract that extended his commitment to the club for one more season, although that does not ensure that he will be able to leave the club in the next transfer window. 

The former Barcelona player was one of those who led the comeback against the Eagles, which earned him praise from Guardiola after the match.  "The Gundo from Leicester, the Gundo from Bournemouth and the Gundo from today is the Gundo I remember when we won the Treble and quadruple," he told reporters.

"He’s an important player, his activity, space, defensive intelligence, arrives. Since Gundo has been with us, he has helped us massively. But as a team we cannot help him individually because it’s not about you, you, you," he added.

“Everyone was down because the team was not playing good. When the team plays good, the individuals rise. Without that - modern football you cannot do it," he concluded.
