Man City stand firm as Chelsea's January bid for O'Reilly rejected

The 19-year-old, who has been with City since the age of eight, has impressed with his recent performances in his team's crisis period. With Pep Guardiola praising his recent displays, the club remains determined to keep him as part of their long-term plans.

The young midfielder made his senior debut in the 2024 Community Shield and later scored his first senior goal against Barcelona in a pre-season friendly. His development has positioned him as one of the club's most promising prospects.

Following a standout performance in which he scored twice against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup, O'Reilly received high praise from Guardiola. "He’s really good!" the City manager said.

His impressive performances had already attracted interest, with Chelsea making a move to sign him in January. Despite the Blues' approach, Manchester City rejected the offer, unwilling to lose control over the player's future.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the club saw him as an integral part of their plans. With City's backing and increasing first-team opportunities, the playmaker's future at the Etihad Stadium looks increasingly promising.
