Man City midfielder Nunes has withdrawn from Portugal squad

Manchester City's Matheus Nunes has been forced out of the Portugal squad through injury. Roberto Martinez's side are preparing for their Euro qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Iceland.

“Matheus Nunes was declared clinically unfit for the two games vs Liechtenstein and Iceland after tests. The player will no longer travel to Zurich, it is late, with the rest of the national delegation,” said the national team's statement.

The midfielder, who joined Manchester City from Wolves, has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, providing one assist without scoring a goal, and has failed to make an impact in Guardiola's starting eleven.

He had been called up to the Portuguese national team and had an important opportunity to catch the eye of the Spanish coach but has suffered a setback with a muscle injury and will miss the games against Liechtenstein and Iceland.
