Maguire claims 'proper England fans' don't boo their players

The Manchester United defender has come out in defence of Al-Ettifaq's Henderson, who has been heavily criticised since leaving Liverpool for the Saudi Pro League.

The Al-Ettifaq player Jordan Henderson was booed by sections of the stadium of England fans at the match against Australia at Wembley. England boss Gareth Southgate slammed the supporters' actions as "defying logic".

In England's last match, which concluded with a 3-1 win over Italy, there was more cheering than booing for the former Liverpool midfielder. Maguire, who has experienced this kind of treatment from fans, also came to Henderson's defence when he spoke to Sky Sports.

"Proper England fans don't boo players. Don't boo players who play for your country and dedicate their life to play and do everything they can to make this country have good memories and special moments for them, the fans and their families," he said.

"I know a lot of top, top England fans and I know the England fans who have been with me ever since my debut and they're right behind me and they're right behind Jordan as well," added Maguire.
