Once again, Vinicius was the protagonist for Real Madrid in the match against Osasuna. The Brazilian was in charge of opening the scoring for his team in the fourth minute of the match. However, on the stroke of half-time, the player was shown a fifth yellow card, which carries a suspension, for excessive protests to Juan Martinez Munuera.
In fact, at half-time, the striker was very angry and didn't hesitate to question the referee's decision in front of the cameras: "Every game of this referee, he shows a card to me. Every match, every match...".
This was the moment when the fans in the stands at El Sadar attacked the Brazilian, hurling insults and chants at him in a humiliating manner. His club did not want to overlook this and issued an official statement questioning and denouncing the referee's actions and claiming that his drafting of the report was negligent, as it did not reflect any of these incidents.
Moreover, Real Madrid also reported the chants to the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, so that the perpetrators can be identified and the respective sanctions can be applied.
The club itself has already filed another complaint for a similar episode that took place at the Lluis Companys stadium during a Barca match, as well as at the Civitas Metropolitano last Wednesday during the Champions League clash between the red and white team and Inter Milan.
Full Real Madrid statement:
Following the serious insults aimed once again at our player Vinicius Junior, this time during our team’s last league game at El Sadar, Real Madrid C. F. wishes to communicate the following:
Our club has filed a complaint with the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee regarding the match referee Juan Martínez Munuera, owing to the negligent drafting of the refereeing report. The official omitted, in voluntary and deliberate fashion, the insults and humiliating chants directed towards our player on a repeated basis, despite his attention being drawn to them continually by our players as they were happening.
Furthermore, Real Madrid has filed a complaint with the same Federative body in relation to the cited insults and humiliating chants, and has reported them to the State Commission Against Violence and Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport, in order for those responsible to be identified and sanctioned.
In light of these unacceptable events at El Sadar, Real Madrid has added to the complaint filed before the General State Prosecutor on Friday the 15th of March regarding hate and discrimination offences pertaining to the racist and hateful abuse aimed at our player Vinicius Junior in the areas surrounding the Montjuic Olympic Stadium and the Metropolitano Stadium, calling for the perpetrators to be identified.
Real Madrid once again condemns these violent attacks of racism, discrimination and hate and demands that measures finally be taken in order to eradicate the violence to which our player Vinicius Junior has been subjected.
