Madrid and Atletico compete for Tottenham’s Romero

Real Madrid have targeted Cristian Romero to strengthen their defence for next season. The arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid will not stop the club from further strengthening their squad.
The Argentinian centre-back is considered a key player in the project of Xabi Alonso, who will take over at Real Madrid in June. According to various reports, the club had already tried to sign Romero last year, but Tottenham rejected any negotiations.
However, the situation has changed after a difficult season for Spurs, who could finish 17th in the Premier League. This could force the English club to part with some of their most valuable players.
Romero's continuity in London will depend, among other things, on whether Tottenham qualify for the Champions League by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao.
Atletico Madrid have also shown a strong interest in the defender, who is said to have even discussed the possibility of a move to the Rojiblanco club with national team-mate Julian Alvarez.
