Mac Allister suspension forces Liverpool midfield shake-up for Merseyside Derby

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will miss Saturday's Merseyside derby at Goodison Park after receiving his fifth Premier League booking of the season in the 3-3 draw against Newcastle.

The Argentine was cautioned in the 20th minute for a foul on Fabian Schar, triggering a one-match suspension under league rules. Manager Arne Slot expressed frustration over the absence of one of his key players but remains confident in his squad's depth.

"It’s unfortunate to lose Alexis, especially for such an important game, but we have other players ready to step up," Slot said. Mac Allister’s suspension adds to Liverpool’s challenges, with injuries already sidelining Alisson, Ibrahima Konaté, and others.

Curtis Jones is expected to take on a deeper midfield role alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai. Despite the setback, Liverpool aim to maintain their strong form at the top of the Premier League table.

Mac Allister will also miss next week's Champions League clash against Girona, giving him time to recover and recharge ahead of the busy festive period.
