Lookman issues transfer request, eyes new challenge

The Nigerian international, a key figure in Atalanta's 2024 Europa League-winning campaign, confirmed that he wishes to move on after three seasons in Bergamo. His message, published on social media, appeared to increase pressure on the club's hierarchy to facilitate a transfer in the current window.
Despite tensions behind the scenes, Lookman was keen to pay tribute to the fans and acknowledge the special connection he had built with them.
"To the fans, the heart and soul of this club," he wrote, "I am very sorry that we have reached this situation. I hope you can understand this difficult decision. It is simply about standing up for what I believe is fair and right."
"The support you have always given me has been incredible, and the bond we've created is something I will always cherish," he added. "That's what makes writing this so difficult. I have enjoyed every moment, but I feel that now, after three wonderful years in Bergamo, it is the right time to move on and embark on a new adventure."
Lookman played a pivotal role in Atalanta's European triumph and has been a standout performer during his time under Gian Piero Gasperini. However, with the summer market in full swing, the forward now looks set to move on — with several clubs expected to monitor his situation closely in the coming weeks.
