Liverpool set €50m price tag as Konate ignores new deal talks

Liverpool have encountered an unexpected problem within their squad. The team managed by Arne Slot, had hoped to secure a contract extension for Ibrahima Konate, whose current deal expires in 2026, before the start of the new campaign. However, the Frenchman is dragging his feet, seemingly with a view to joining Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.

Consequently, the Reds have decided to put Konate on the market. Indeed, according to 'AS', they have already set his asking price. Any club wishing to acquire the French defender will have to shell out €50 million.

Real Madrid are the frontrunners for his signature and seemingly the only club that interests the centre-back. Now, the Spanish giants must decide whether it's worth making a move for him this summer or risk missing out on him altogether, especially given their defensive concerns.

Even if Real Madrid are unwilling to sanction further spending, Xabi Alonso has requested reinforcements at centre-back, particularly after the Club World Cup performances of Asencio and Rudiger.

Liverpool remain hopeful that Konate will have a change of heart and renew his contract. They have witnessed both the ups and downs of leaving negotiations until the last minute. They successfully renewed Van Dijk and Salah but lost Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer, ironically to Real Madrid.
