Liverpool legend Gerrard confirms plans to return to management

Gerrard spent 18 months managing in the Saudi Pro League, but his tenure ended in January after a disappointing spell in which he won only five of 17 domestic matches during the 2024/25 season. His next career move remains uncertain.

Before his time in Saudi Arabia, the 44-year-old had a challenging period at Aston Villa, where his struggles in the Premier League tempered earlier hopes of him becoming Liverpool's future manager. His subsequent move to the Middle East raised eyebrows among many.

Since parting ways with Al-Ettifaq, there has been speculation about his next steps. While he hasn't yet decided where he will go next, he is clear about wanting to take some time away from the intense pressures of football management.

In a conversation on That Peter Crouch Podcast, he shared: "I don't want to be back in work right now. I've just come out, and I'm enjoying having some freedom—spending time with family and being away from the stress of coaching.

"At some point, I'll go back, but for now, I'm just enjoying doing normal things, like playing golf or having a drink with friends, things you can't do when you're in management."

Though currently out of work, Gerrard has been linked with several managerial opportunities, with many pundits suggesting he could make a return to Rangers, the club where he made his first successful managerial impact by winning the Scottish Premiership title.
