Leno decided not to go to Germany after talks with Nagelsmann

Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno said that, despite speaking to coach Julian Nagelsmann, he decided not to be included in the current Germany squad because he was told "I wouldn't be involved in any games."

Speaking to the German newspaper ‘Bild’, the goalkeeper acknowledged a call from the German coach, with whom he said he has "open and honest" meetings, and said that he "always knows" he is there when "needed" and that he can "help the team a lot."

He added that, at 32, he is no longer "a newcomer" and that he has "never" demanded the job, but has always complied and has never "said anything."

"After all my games in the Bundesliga, the Premier League and at international level, Julian knows what I have in me. It will always be a great honour for me to play for the national team and that remains my goal. But I decided to stay and train in London," said the goalkeeper.

Bernd Leno's approach to return to Germany, for whom he has made nine appearances and been capped at two European Championships, comes in the wake of Barcelona goalkeeper Ter Stegen's serious injury, with a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee that will keep him out for eight months.

His relationship with the Barcelona goalkeeper has always been in question in the Central European country. Both are of the same generation and have always been relegated to the role of substitute for Manuel Neuer in the national team goal.
