Lavia hopes to build on successful Chelsea return after injury setbacks

Romeo Lavia made his first Chelsea start since January in the 1-0 win against Everton, playing 67 minutes at the base of midfield and helping the team secure three vital points. 

“I had a lot of fun just being back with the team and helping them to get a big win in an important moment for the team and the club,” Lavia said.

The Belgian midfielder, who has struggled with injuries throughout the season, described his return as “a real pleasure” and is eager to continue contributing: “Hopefully I can carry on helping the team.”

Partnering with Moises Caicedo in midfield, Lavia’s presence was key to Chelsea’s dominant first hour against Everton. 

Manager Enzo Maresca praised Lavia’s performance, highlighting his defensive and attacking qualities, and emphasised the importance of managing his fitness carefully for the remainder of the campaign.

Lavia also spoke positively about the team’s unity: “We’re all great players so we know how to play together and we try as much as possible to help each other with our own qualities to help the team as much as we can. So it’s a pleasure to play alongside them.”
