La Liga joins legal proceedings over attack on three Villarreal fans with disabilities

On Tuesday, La Liga announced that it has formally requested to take part in the legal case against those accused of assaulting three Villarreal supporters on 15 February, near the club's stadium after the match against Valencia.
The league has also requested precautionary measures against the two suspects, including stadium bans and restrictions preventing them from approaching or contacting the victims—who have functional diversity—or their immediate families.
"La Liga remains firmly committed to eradicating all forms of hate from football," the organisation stated. A week after the incident, two individuals were arrested and brought before the Court of First Instance and Investigation No.3 in Mislata (Valencia), which was handling the case at the time
They were released with precautionary measures, including the obligation to appear before the court regularly. The suspects, both Spanish nationals, are under investigation for assault-related offences.
The High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community later confirmed that the Mislata court would transfer the case to the courts, which have jurisdiction to continue the investigation.
As a result of the attack, one of the victims required surgery after suffering a fractured jaw and losing a tooth. Both Villarreal and Valencia have also confirmed that they will take part in the legal proceedings.
