Karpin renews with Russia until 2024

Russia are delighted with their coach. The federation has already given him a new contract until 2024.

"I am grateful to the RFU for the offer to continue working for Russia," the coach said. Karpin also thanked Rostov because they allowed him to combine his work in charge of the national team with the head of the Rostov bench, the Russian club he has been in charge of since 2017.

"Even now, when the national team is not participating in competitive matches, the need for their existence is beyond doubt. It is important to show that we are alive and ready to return to international competitions," said the coach.

Karpin, 53, a former player with Spanish sides Real Sociedad and Sevilla, headed Russia in July 2021. He replaced Stanislav Cherchesov, who was blamed for Russia's failure at Euro 2020. Under Karpin, Russia played eight matches, winning six of them.
