Jonny Evans retires as last link to Ferguson's Manchester United

Farewell to the versatile defensive stalwart of Manchester United. Jonny Evans has brought an end to his long and distinguished playing career. He departs as the last, albeit with an asterisk, survivor from Ferguson's United.
Evans was the sole member of the 2012/13 squad still registered with the Red Devils this season. Over the past 12 years, however, he also featured for West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City before returning to Old Trafford in the 2023/24 campaign.
At 37 years of age, and with a diminishing role on the pitch, the Northern Irishman hangs up his boots but will remain with the club. He has been appointed Head of Loans and Financing at Manchester United and is nearing completion of his UEFA coaching licence.
"I want to officially announce my retirement as a player. Not with sadness, but with pride, gratitude, and excitement for the new chapter ahead. I will be forever thankful to the coaches, backroom staff, and, of course, my teammates, with whom I have had the privilege to work over my 20 years in professional football," he declared.
"I look forward to working with the next generation of talented players to help them reach their full potential. Having experience with loan deals, I understand the crucial role they play in a player's development. I'm excited to help continue building the pathway to our first team and to carry on the legacy of young players thriving at Manchester United," he concluded
