The Republic of Ireland international lost his mother at the age of 11 and said that his father just sent him to school after her death to try to carry on as normal as possible.
'I went to see my mum in the hospice after she passed away, and the next day, I went straight back into school, carried on as if everything was all right', he said.
Walters added that he could not stop crying for two days. 'I remember crying for two days. Non-stop. My mum was in the hospice. I remember the days vividly.'
After his professional football career, Walters wants to study psychology at university, as the loss affected him for a very long time.
The 33-year-old moved to Burnley the summer, signing a two-year contract and he has played 49 times for Ireland, scoring 14 goals for his country.
