"I'd like to play in the Premier League"

Gyokeres stands out as one of the most prolific goalscorers in world football. The Swedish striker, who has amassed a remarkable 54 goals in 52 appearances in the 2024-25 season, is reportedly keen to leave Sporting Lisbon this summer, with Arsenal heavily linked.
Speaking to 'France Football', the striker hinted at his desire to play in the Premier League: "I'd like to play in the Premier League. It would offer a great chance for redemption. It's one of the biggest leagues in Europe. I spent a few years there without playing a single game. Naturally, it's something I'd like to do."
Gyokeres was referring to his time in England, where he played for Brighton (2020-21), Swansea (2020-21), and Coventry City (2020-2023). "It was the first time I'd been away from home, discovering a different culture. Everything felt new. I didn't play much, or only featured on the left wing. I got minutes in the FA Cup and League Cup, but I wasn't good enough to make an impact," he said.
Now, the Swede has transformed his career and is considered one of the best strikers in the world, alongside the likes of Haaland, Kane, and Lewandowski. He even asserted: "Without a doubt, I'm one of them. I belong at the top level with them. I need to prove I can maintain those standards season after season. You haven't seen the best Viktor Gyokeres yet."
On Ruben Amorim's departure to United in early November 2024, the Swedish international admitted it was a shock. "Seeing your coach leave mid-season while we hadn't lost a single match was something I'd never experienced before," he said.
Finally, the striker, who was absent from Sporting Lisbon's pre-season training camp in the Algarve on Saturday, spoke about his future. "I'm not currently thinking about leaving; we'll see what happens. If something is to happen, it will happen. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that truly wants me," he concluded.
