Giroud opened the scoring for Chelsea with a fine header

The Frenchman nodded in a header from Emerson's left wing cross to break the deadlock in Belarus.

Chelsea had been struggling to break down the underdogs, whose organised defensive structure meant they were a tricky proposition.

When the Brazilian curled the ball in, it seemed perfect for the tall striker to get to, and he duly dominated his opponent.

The header was powerful and low, and it beat Scherbitski in a manner that the 22-year-old Belarusian might have been disappointed with.
