Giroud booed by France fans

Oliver Giroud was heckled by the French supporters during France's 3-2 win over Cameroon on Monday evening.

The Arsenal striker was jeered despite scoring in the game - taking his personal record to a rather impressive five goals in his past six international appearances.

Speaking after the game, the striker told reporters:  "Yes, I heard them [the boos].

"I don't know. You know I've had difficult moments that have been difficult to manage in my career, so these don't affect me, but it's a shame. 

"Being French, playing for France, if you miss a chance you expect your fans to encourage you. That's what they're there for.

"In any case, I scored a goal with my only shot. So I don't really understand it, but the important thing was that we won, and I've continued my little personal run."

The striker then confirmed that believed the jeers were due to Karim Benzema's ommission from the side, seeing as Giroud will likely take the Real Madrid man's spot as France's number 9 this summer. 

"Yes, we must not pretend that it isn't [because of the Benzema snub], " he added.

"I am... we are with Dede (Andre-Pierre Gignac) those who will be targeted."

The teams coach, Didier Deschamps also described the events as 'unfair' as he defended his striker.  

"You hear what you want. The whistles were unfair tonight, but in Biarritz, he was applauded. People can be conditioned," he told reporters.

"But Olivier scored again. When you say it, you are not helpful. You are free to say what you want but this is not necessarily the truth."
