Germany announced squad list with Nubel as Ter Stegen's replacement

Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rudiger has been called back into Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann's squad after being rested for the September break to help the national team get on track to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Nations League with a double-header against Bosnia and the Netherlands.

The 23-man squad announced by the former Bayern Munich coach includes the return of Bavarians winger Serge Gnabry, who has been absent from the national team since November last year; Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tim Kleindienst, who replaces the injured Niclas Fullkrug; and Red Bull Salzburg goalkeeper Janis Blaswich, who takes the place of Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

One of the main question marks during the break will be who the German national coach chooses to replace the Azulgrana goalkeeper, out of action due to a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee: Alexander Nubel, on loan from Bayern Stuttgart, or Oliver Baumann, who plays for Hoffenheim. The choice is likely to be the former.

In recent weeks, there has even been debate in Germany about the possible return of Manuel Neuer, who retired from international duty after the European Championship, to the ranks of the four-time world champions.

Germany, who beat Hungary convincingly and drew with the Netherlands in Amsterdam in the last national team break, have a chance to put qualification for the quarter-finals on track in a competition in which they have never progressed beyond the group stage.

They must overcome Bosnia and Herzegovina, against whom they meet on 11 October in Zenica, and the Netherlands, with whom they share top spot in the group on four points, three days later in Munich.
