Spain defender Jose Luis Gaya left a message from Valencia with a certain tone of disapproval of the decision of coach Luis Enrique Martinez to leave him out of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar "due to a slight sprain", shattering what he described as his "childhood dreams", and with the desire to settle the debate he assured that, from now on, he will be "just another fan" of the national team.
"I want to thank you for all the messages of support I have received in the last few hours. I honestly don't know if I deserve so much love. It is not easy to accept that one of your childhood dreams is shattered by a slight sprain. But sometimes things happen and we have to accept them," he wrote on his official social media account.
"Now I will be one more fan who will enjoy every game of 'la Roja'. That's why I want to wish all the luck in the world to my team-mates, because I have no doubt that this will be Spain's World Cup. Life goes on," he added.
Gaya left Spain's training camp at the University of Qatar on Friday night, the same day he was informed in the morning of the decision to replace him with Alejandro Balde for the World Cup because of the sprained ankle he suffered two days earlier in training.
