Gakpo says Arsenal took advantage of Liverpool's 'drop' to level

The Reds headed into the break with a two-goal cushion after Gakpo and Diaz struck within 87 seconds of each other at Anfield. But Arsenal's fightback sealed the result at a draw, with Martinelli scoring early in the second half and Merino levelling with 20 minutes to spare.
"We played very well in moments, got 2-0 up – you should win the game," Gakpo said after Sunday's 2-2 draw. "Obviously, you know Arsenal is a strong side with a lot of qualities as well. But we as a team, when we are 2-0 up, we shouldn't give that away."
The Dutchman said that Liverpool were 'sloppy on the ball' at times, allowing the Gunners back into the game despite the lead. "I think we were not that sharp anymore, maybe not that focused anymore as we were in the first half, a little bit sloppy on the ball as well," he added.
Having wrapped up the title two weeks ago, Gakpo hinted that the team may not have performed to the best of their abilities. "When you drop maybe one or two per cent, then they have the quality to take advantage of that. But I think it was because of us dropping in energy level," he admitted.
"After they scored twice, we got back up again, and we created some good opportunities. Unfortunately, we didn't get a winner," he concluded. While the draw remains meaningless to Liverpool, a point is valuable for Arsenal's bid to qualify for next season's Champions League via a top-five finish.
