Former Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas hits out at RFEF

Iker Casillas is quite active on his social networks, where, in recent weeks, he has already been giving hints of his position on the situation at the RFEF, which has been peppered with scandals for months and even years. On Sunday afternoon, the former Real Madrid and Porto goalkeeper, who is a national football legend, went further and directly charged at what he considers to be a "rotten and entrenched system".

"The RFEF needs a change beyond elections. It needs a profound structural change to put an end to a rotten and entrenched system. It is no longer worth more of the same," he wrote on his Twitter profile. Previously, he had already posted an emoticon of an excrement next to the national flag and a ball, as well as a gesture of a slap in the face as a sign of being fed up, and another text that read: "First step: for the regeneration of the RFEF, a change in the regional bodies is necessary. It's simple!

It does not follow from this view that he will stand in the elections, which have been called by Pedro Rocha for this year. Journalist Carlos Herrera positions himself, for the moment, as the main opposition to the current mandate, which operates through a transitional management committee following the period of Luis Rubiales, who returned to Spain to testify before the courts for alleged irregularities during his time in office.

Iker Casillas' opinion means that one of the leading exponents of the national game and the Spanish national team does not agree with how the RFEF's mess is being dealt with. Now focused on his position as president of the Kings League and in his position as ambassador for both La Liga and the Real Madrid Foundation, he also shares, in part, the 'Merengues' point of view.
