Former Liverpool player Adam Lallana retires aged 37

English midfielder Adam Lallana has announced his retirement from football at the age of 37. Capped 34 times by England, he played last season for Southampton, making 34 appearances and subsequently serving as an assistant coach, a role he will continue in next season under Will Still.

The midfielder came through the ranks at the 'Saints' and played 250 games for them between 2006 and 2014, rising from League One to the Premier League. In 2014, Liverpool paid 30 million euros for him.

With the 'Reds' he won a Champions League before moving to Brighton & Hove Albion.

"I am retiring from football with a great sense of gratitude and pride. Southampton is where it all started and where it will end. It's the place I owe everything to," said Lallana.
