Fletcher twins make history as captains of Scotland and England U-18s

The legacy of Darren Fletcher, the iconic former Manchester United player who made 342 appearances for the Red Devils, is safe with his twin sons. Jack and Tyler left Manchester City in 2023 and followed in their father's footsteps to join the Red Devils' youth academy, where they have been ever since. Jack has even been called up to the senior squad.
During this international break, both Jack, a central midfielder, and Tyler, an attacking midfielder, were once again selected to represent their countries. While this is not unusual in itself, what makes this case unique in the world of football is that, despite being twins born in Manchester, each brother represents a different country at the international level. Jack is the captain of England U-18, while Tyler leads Scotland U-18, even during the March international break.
Although playing for a national team at the youth level does not permanently bind a player to that country, it seems likely that these brothers will pursue different paths after previously playing together in the English youth divisions. Tyler made his debut for Scotland, briefly represented England, and decided for good that he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps.
Darren Fletcher, a former player who also played for West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City, remains one of Scotland's most capped players years after his retirement. Born in Edinburgh, the midfielder earned 80 international caps for the Tartan Army before his professional retirement in 2019.
While Scotland U-18 drew 1-1 with Sweden U-18 and suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Poland U-18 during this international break, England U-18 played a 2-2 draw against Czech Republic U-18, managed by Louis Buffon, the son of the former Italian goalkeeper, drew 2-2 with France U-18, and won 1-0 against Portugal U-18.
Before joining their respective national teams, the brothers starred in a 4-0 win for United's U-21s over West Bromwich Albion. Jack Fletcher scored a brace, with both goals assisted by his brother Tyler.
Manchester United have made no secret of their high regard for the potential of Jack and Tyler, and their debut in the current struggling first team may not be too far off.
