Flamengo star Pedro set for lengthy lay-off after ACL injury

Brazil international Pedro has a long recovery ahead of him. The player had to leave Brazil's training camp after suffering severe pain in one of his knees.

Pedro returned to Flamengo and underwent tests, which determined that he has a rupture in the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee. According to 'AS', he will miss between 9 and 12 months depending on his progress.

This will be the Brazilian team's main loss for the match against Penarol in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores. The Brazilian striker, with 8 goals this season, is their top scorer.

Without him, Flamengo will bolster their attack with Uruguayans Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Nicolas de la Cruz. The absence of the striker and other stars such as Everton Cebolinha, Michael, Luiz Araujo and Uruguayan Matias Vina, who are still recovering from injuries, have dented the team's performance in the last few rounds of the Brazilian League. 

In this competition,  the ‘Fla’ hope to be more successful. A two-legged win over rocky Penarol would be enough to see them through to the semi-finals and that is why Tite's chosen players will be giving their all.
