Effigy of Sevilla president hung from bridge as fan protests escalate

Despite the team securing their LaLiga safety with three games to spare, tensions remain high among the fanbase, with growing unrest directed at the club's board and majority shareholders.
On Wednesday morning, radical supporters displayed banners on major roads in Seville, including the SE-30 ring road, where an effigy was found hanging from a bridge alongside the threatening message aimed at Del Nido Carrasco — the son of former club president Jose Maria del Nido Benavente.
The effigy and banners were quickly taken down, as were others seen along the A-49 motorway connecting Seville to Huelva, which also carried threatening messages aimed at the club's hierarchy and principal shareholders.
The displays reflect mounting frustration among fans, with Sevilla having battled against relegation for a third consecutive season.
Tuesday's narrow 1-0 win over Las Palmas offered only brief respite. After the final whistle, chants calling for Del Nido Carrasco and his board to resign echoed once again around the stadium.
The crisis now extends beyond the pitch. Following last Saturday's defeat to Celta Vigo, police were forced to intervene when a group of ultras attempted to storm the club's training ground as the team returned from Galicia.
For security reasons, the players were made to spend the night at the facility under police protection.
Sevilla face not just a sporting crisis, but an institutional and financial one too — and the mood in the city shows no sign of improving.
