Real Madrid striker Joselu Mato said on Wednesday, after scoring a decisive brace against Bayern Munich that helped his side reach the Champions League final, that he had never had such beautiful dreams as the one he experienced at the Bernabeu against the German side.
Joselu came on in the second half at 0-1 down. In the 88th and 90th minutes, he scored two goals that turned the tie around and, afterwards, in statements to the media, he expressed the happiness he felt as soon as the match was over.
"You always dream of being in the moment. The first goal is about being ready, being alert to the move. They were tired and those minutes showed. You dream of having nights like that; in my dreams, it's not as nice as today's, like the one I had tonight. I've always said it: I came here to help and to contribute. Ancelotti knew what I could contribute and, in the end, I'm happy for what I've been able to give. Happy to win a La Liga title and to be in a Champions League final," he said.
"The hero... I consider myself one of them. The whole squad has had an incredible year. We've all come in at an unbelievable time at this point in the season. The game was going to be very difficult. To get here after what we've been through at the start of the season is very difficult. I'm happy for what I've been able to contribute. I try to make the most of my moments. This is what it feels like to be a Madridista," he said.
Joselu reported that, after the match, he remembered his wife and children, who have "suffered the most" throughout his career. Above all, his wife, who, he declared, has always "put her shoulder to the wheel in difficult moments". Asked what Real Madrid's plan was immediately after equalising the game, he said that, at Real Madrid, when a match is equalised, "people ask you to take the ball and go to the centre of the pitch to win".
"We knew that, at 1-1, we had a chance. The fans were pushing us and that's the Real Madrid mentality. That's the Real Madrid feeling, that you get them out of the game. You also have to win these games with your heart and Madrid have plenty of that", he commented. Finally, he spoke about his future: "I'm focused on what has happened and that, in three weeks' time, there's a final. We'll see what happens in the future. I want to be 100% for the rest of the season", he concluded.
