Dortmund make big statement with big early spending spree

Borussia Dortmund have made a big statement to their Bundesliga rivals with a big spending spree totalling £85m.
Dortmund sealed the deal with three fellow Bundesliga signings, with Thorgan Hazard, Julian Brandt and Nico Shulz all signing on to play at the Signal Iguna Park next season.
Add to that the confirmed permanent stay of Spaniard Paco Alcacer for a further £18.9m and Dortmund are creating a side that they genuinely believe can compete for the title again, after a season where they came so close, yet so far to winning the Bundesliga.
Hans-Joachim Watzke has stated his intentions to not just challenge for the title, but to win the Bundesliga title next season.
Dortmund also brought in Axel Witsel, Thomas Delaney, Abdou Diallo and Leonardo Balerdi last summer, as they look to change from a side competing for inclusion in the Champions League into a side competing on both domestic and European fronts.
Watzke said on the subject of Dortmund's transfer policy: 'We are the only second power in German football, but we will be more aggressive and more ambitious', this certainly appears to have taken place already.
It is likely that Dortmund will be spending more money this summer, as they look to bring in a central defender and a central midfielder, with the option of a forward also on the cards.
