Doherty on standby to join Atletico

The arrival of one player could trigger the departure of another at Tottenham. As a result, Matt Doherty is on standby.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Irish player already had a verbal agreement with Atletico Madrid to sign on loan in January. The contract would not include an option to buy and, therefore, the defender would return to the Premier League in June.

However, the 31-year-old has to wait for Pedro Porro to sign for Tottenham. The Spanish player is already in London to close his deal after playing for Sporting.

Furthermore, Atletico are waiting for Felipe to leave Simeone's side before they can sign Doherty. According to 'Marca', his departure is imminent.
