Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic and former Brazilian Formula One driver Felipe Massa are set to become minority shareholders in French football club Le Mans, the club announced on Friday at a ceremony at the Marie-Marvingt stadium, marking the 40th anniversary of its foundation.
Le Mans announced several changes to its internal structure, including the arrival of the Brazilian investment fund Outfield, through which Djokovic and Massa will become minority shareholders.
Another F-1 driver, Denmark's Kevin Magnussen, has also acquired shares in the club, newly promoted to Ligue 2 (the second tier of French football), Le Mans confirmed.
The three will be indirect investors in the French club, where players such as Didier Drogba played in the past, the Ivorian wearing the Le Mans shirt between 1997 and 2002. The club's aim is to gain promotion to Ligue 1, a division they have not played in since the 2009/10 season.
