Deschamps confirms Mendy will join Madrid

Speaking at a press conference ahead of France's trip to Andorra, the national team manager revealed that Ferland Mendy will be a Real Madrid player next season. The only thing that remains is for Lyon and Real Madrid to make an agreement official.

"Can the market affect players? There's always noise, possibilities. That involves several French players. Sometimes some who don't expect it, like Mendy. Madrid comes and...", said Deschamps.

The World Cup winning manager was full of praise for the left-back, who has played 44 times for Lyon this season."Two years ago he was in the Second Division and now he will play for Real Madrid. He can play on both flanks and his progression has been brilliant".

As Deschamps reminded us, Mendy was playing for Le Havre in France's second tier just two years ago. Now, after impressing as he made the step up to Lyon, the Frenchman will compete with Marcelo for a starting spot at Real Madrid.

Mendy's intention is to finalise his Real Madrid contract when he returns from international duty with France, and it will be then that 'Los Blancos' can announce his 50 million euro signing from the French club.
