"Courtois is a great goalkeeper, but he lacks humility"

Areola, who arrived on loan from PSG in the summer, is at a crucial stage in his career. With all the doubts about Courtois, he feels like now is his time and Bernard Lama advises him to finally take the step he needs.

"I know him very well and every time I have seen him, I have told him. He should try to be number one because he can do it and he has enormous athletic and physical potential. He still needs to pass that psychological barrier to play regularly", he started explaining.

Lama also highlighted that PSG haven't helped him improve as a goalkeeper. "The team's policy isn't quite right for him since they didn't trust him. However, he did have matches to win them over but in the end, e didn't do it.

"I hope that Zidane's presence helps him take this step. Everything is a question of confidence. He is a great goalkeeper but maybe he hasn't had the luck to become number 1, although he still has time to do it", he added.

Bernard Lama also spoke about Courtois' situation. "The truth is he hasn't been commanding. Every keeper concedes, there are balls which are unstoppable, but you also have to impose yourself to get points for your team. He is a great goalkeeper but he lacks a bit of humility. [Real's] fragile defence hasn't helped him either... not everything has been his fault".
