Correa apologises to referee Cuadra Fernandez and Atletico fans after costly red card

Atletico Madrid's Argentine international striker Angel Correa asked for “forgiveness” on Sunday to the referee of his team's match against Getafe, Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez, for the insults after his red card sending-off; he expressed that this “reaction is not proper” of him and hoped that he “accepts” his “most sincere apologies”.

According to the minutes, the striker told the referee “Hijo de mil put*s, cag*n. La conch* de tu madre”, after being sent off for a foul on Djene, in the 87th minute of the match, with 0-1 in favour of the 'Colchoneros', which then lost 2-1.

“I want to apologise to the referee Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez for my reaction after the sending-off. My respect for referees is total and this reaction is not like me. I was very hot for leaving the team with ten men at such a delicate moment and I reacted in the worst way. I hope you accept my sincere apologies,” Correa later expressed through a message on social networks.

“I also want to apologise to my teammates and coaches and to our fans for an action that I should not have done and that has cost us dearly,” added the attacker, who faces a four- to 12-match suspension for his insults to the referee.
