It was a physical encounter with the home side’s players being on the receiving end, in comparison to previous matches involving Man City, of some hefty challenges. Ashley Barnes, Sam Vokes, Nick Pope and Phil Bardsley all had to receive treatment in the first-half for various niggles but thankfully were all okay to continue.

City continued their theme of dominance which was visible against Cardiff and West Brom, seeing the vast majority of possession and chances in the first 45 minutes but unusually lacked the final product to take advantage.

Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan couldn’t connect well with balls from Bernardo Silva as the 'Sky Blues' would go on to rue these missed chances.

As Sean Dyche’s team has one of the best defences in the Premier League,  it appeared as if only a sensational goal would break the deadlock this time around.

Pep Guardiola's side did not disappoint as Danilo's stunning strike in the 21st minute gave the visitors the lead. The 26-year-old found himself in plenty of space just outside the box and decided to have a pop.

It was the right decision as the ball curled and dropped to evade Burnley's goalkeeper and nestle into the back of the net. It is only the Brazil international’s second goal since joining from Real Madrid in the summer.

The goal did shock the home side into some action as they gradually grew into the match just before the break. Defender Ben Mee would have the best opportunity to equalise in the 31st minute after getting on the end of a lofting ball into the box.

However, City's goal scorer Danilo defended well and got an important deflection to take Mee's shot around the post for a corner with the 'Clarets' relatively happy to go into the break only one goal down.

    - City dominate but Burnley fight back -

The second-half continued in the same vein as Guardiola's side enjoyed numerous chances to kill the game off.

Sergio Aguero ran into the box and dazzled a few defenders but his shot would be blocked by substitue Matthew Lowton's back, who had to be brought on during the break as Bardsley was not deemed fit enough to continue.

Danilo would also try another long-range attempt in similar style to his first goal which troubled Pope enough for the keeper to get a hand to it to tip it over.

Raheem Sterling will be the most annoyed out of the visitors as he missed an open goal in the 71st minute. The ball was fired along the box by Kyle Walker but the England international couldn't direct it into the goal-mouth as it went inches wide. He hit the ground in frustration and it would prove costly ten minutes later.

Despite City's dominance, Burnley still looked threatening from set-pieces and long balls with new signing Aaron Lennon forcing a great save from Ederson onto the post to deny the 30-year-old.

The 'Clarets' would be rewarded for their persistence in the 82nd minute when Gundmunsson directed a great cross from Lowton into the back of the net to stun Guardiola and his players.

The visitors could offer no reply to the late equaliser and were forced to settle for a draw, although they still maintain a comfortable lead at the top of the Premier League.

As for Burnley, it will be a massive confidence boost going into their next few fixtures as they move away from Leicester City and Everton in eighth and nineth respectively.
