Boca Juniors coach Gago sacked after 'Superclasico' defeat

Argentinian club Boca Juniors announced on Tuesday the sacking of their coach Fernando Gago shortly after last Sunday's 2-1 Superclasico defeat to River Plate.
"We have made a decision that Fernando Gago and his coaching staff have reached this point with the institution," said Mauricio Serna, a member of Boca Juniors' football board, on Tuesday.
"Yesterday, until late at night, we searched and found a way for Fernando to no longer be our coach," added Serna in statements to the media at Boca Juniors' headquarters.
In this abrupt way, Gago, a former “Xeneize” player who was leading the Apertura, ends his time as coach at La Bombonera, where he arrived just a few months ago (October 2024). A brief spell that was marked by the unexpected and painful elimination in the Copa Libertadores qualifiers against Alianza Lima.
