Bellingham wins La Liga Best Player Award, Yamal named u23 Player of the Season

La Liga has presented its awards for the 2023-24 season. The categories honoured are best overall player, best U23 player, best goal and best coach. The winners were Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham, Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, Osasuna's Jesus Areso and Girona's Michel Sanchez. 

The talent from La Masia overcame future and present stars such as Rodrygo Goes, his teammate Pau Cubarsi, Miguel Gutierrez, Nico Williams or Takefusa Kubo. The fact that several of them already have considerable experience in the top flight reignites the debate as to whether this type of distinction should not be even more limited in terms of age, so that the list of nominees should include players under 21, not 23 years of age.

In recognising the 'Merengue', there was little doubt despite his slump in the final stretch of the campaign. It is difficult to find a process of adaptation to an elite club as fast as his at Real Madrid, where he landed on his feet with a run of goals, assists and good play that made headlines in the international sporting press during his first few weeks with little room for other matters.

Areso is perhaps the player who has had the least access to this type of protagonism this season, in which he has established himself as an essential asset for Osasuna. He is being rewarded for his goal from the right wing back line against Getafe in mid-January. As for Michel, he is praised for his rising career at the hands of Girona, whom he has taken to the Champions League with his eye-catching style.
