Bayern seek to regain DFB Pokal status

Bayern Munich are slowly but surely getting back to their old selves. They are top of the Bundesliga, but they are back in the drama of the DFB Pokal. A competition in which they have gone from the terror of last season to the need to regain the throne of the competition, the one that has eluded them since 2020.

In chronological order, Holstein Kiel, ‘Monchengladbach, Freiburg and Saarbrucken were the executioners of the Bavarian team in the last 4 editions. The last-mentioned team, a team from the 3. Liga, beat them 2-1 on 1st November 2023.

Almost a year later, Bayern Munich enter the last 32 of the DFB Pokal with the need to overcome Mainz 05 without complications. Ulm were their victims in the first round with a 4-0 win. The scorers were Thomas Muller with a brace, Kingsley Coman and Harry Kane.

Vincent Kompany's side currently sit top of the Bundesliga with the same 20 points as RB Leipzig. A whopping 29 goals scored and just seven conceded in eight games. That solidity should carry over to the competition they can't remember how to win.
