Midfielder Gustavo Puerta, the surprise package of the Colombian national team at the South American Under-20 Championship, will play for Bayer Leverkusen, according to an announcement on Friday by Bogota FC, the 19-year-old's second-division club.
"We make official the departure of the player Gustavo Adolfo Puerta Molano to the German team Bayer Leverkusen," said the capital club in a statement, so it is expected that in the coming days he will present the medical examinations and sign a contract with the team led by Xabi Alonso.
The midfielder, who scored the goal in the 1-1 draw with Brazil in the fourth matchday of Group A, is leaving Bogota FC, the club where he trained and signed his first professional contract in June 2021.
"It is an honour for us to have been able to count on him during all this time, seeing his sporting and personal growth. We are sure that he will have a great future and will give great joy to our country. We wish Gustavo every success and we are proud to say that he has been and will continue to be a Bogota native at heart," added the team from the capital.
In addition to the goal against Brazil, Puerta, who plays as a midfielder, provided two assists for Oscar Cortes in his team's 2-1 win over Peru on matchday three and has been singled out as one of the tournament's best players.
