Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal: goals, braces, hat tricks and records

After Leo Messi's departure there was some uncertainty about who would be Barcelona's next star. Something that the 'Cules', only four years after the departure of the Argentinian, have already managed to find. 

Lamine Yamal has become the leader of a Barca side that has returned to the top of European football this season despite failing to win the Champions League, although they have managed to win a domestic treble, and have been able to impress with their style of play characterised by their high defensive line.

The Spanish winger's growth and importance with Barcelona has been progressive since his first team debut in the 2022/23 season, to the point of leading the 'Cules' attack this season alongside the in-form Raphinha and veteran Robert Lewandowski.

Apart from the Spanish gem's great dribbling and ability to outpace opponents, the young winger also delivers in terms of goals and assists, having scored 18 goals and provided 21 assists in the past 2024/25 campaign, a total of 39 G/A. 

In total, Yamal has made 106 official appearances in the Barcelona shirt at just 17 years of age, 81 of which have been as a starter and in which he has scored a total of 25 goals and provided 28 assists, that is, the Moroccan-born winger has an average of 0.23 goals and 0.26 assists per game since debuting with the first team.

Braces

Although Yamal's goalscoring is not the most prominent of his qualities, the Spain international has scored three braces in 106 appearances since making his professional debut.

The Spanish winger scored twice in a 4-1 win over Girona in La Liga. He did it too against Granada despite the Catalan side being held to a 3-3 draw and the most recent to date, in Spain's victory over France in the Nations League semi-finals, although 'La Roja' failed to lift the trophy in the final after losing on penalties to Portugal.

Hat tricks

On the other hand and surprisingly, Lamine Yamal has yet to score a hat trick since making his first appearance for FC Barcelona's first team. Although he has produced some anthological performances against big teams such as Real Madrid and Inter, the young striker has yet to beat the opposing goalkeeper three times in the same match.

National team goals

The youth product of the Barcelona academy has not only become the star of the Catalan team, but he is also the great promise and leader of Spain, one of the most in-form and promising national teams due to its eye-catching style of play and the number of emerging talents they have. 

Yamal has made 21 official international appearances, of which 17 have been as a starter and in which he has scored 6 goals and provided 8 assists, that is, he has an average of 0.28 goals and 0.38 assists per game in international work.

At 16 years and 38 days, he became the youngest player in the history of La Liga in the 21st century to start; surpassing the record set by Fabrice Olinga with Malaga in 2012. He accompanied this accolade with a fine performance in the win over Cádiz.

A few days later, at the age of 16 years and 45 days, he was labelled the youngest player in La Liga this century when he provided an assist, in this case for Gavi, who scored in Barcelona's 4-3 win over Villarreal.

Lamine Yamal's breakthrough at FC Barcelona game also saw him make his debut for Spain's senior national team. Not satisfied with the historic record of precociousness that came with making his debut at the age of 16 years and 57 days, he scored a goal. Youngest Barca player to make Champions League debut

The 16 years and 68 days he was in the group stage match in Montjuic against Antwerp (5-0) meant that he broke a new record: being the youngest debutant in the history of FC Barcelona in the Champions League.

At just 16 years and 83 days old, Lamine Yamal became the youngest player to start a Champions League match by appearing in Barcelona's starting XI in the “Cules” 1-0 away win over Porto.

Youngest player to score in La Liga history

On 8th October 2023, Yamal also became the youngest goalscorer in La Liga history after scoring his first goal in a 2-2 draw against Granada in the domestic championship.

Youngest player ever to play in 'El Clasico'

On 28th October 2023, he added a new record to his extensive catalogue by becoming the youngest player ever to play in 'El Clasico'. He entered the history of Barça-Madrid, breaking a record held by Vicenç Martínez, also a Barça player, who was 16 years and 280 days old.

Youngest player to make an assist in Champions League history

At 16 years and 153 days, he became the youngest player to make an assist in the European competition when he assisted Ferran Torres in the Catalans' group-stage defeat to Antwerp.

Youngest player to score and make debut in Spanish Super Cup

In the 2023/24 season, at the age of 16 years and 182 days, he became the youngest debutant in the competition, in the Catalan team's 2-0 win over Osasuna in the semi-finals. In addition, the winger managed to score in that victory, making him the youngest goalscorer in the history of the competition.

Youngest goalscorer in Copa del Rey history

In the Copa del Rey, on 24th January 2024, the player from La Masia found the net at San Mames at the age of 16 years and 195 days. That was enough to set another record: to be the youngest goal scorer in the competition in the whole of the 21st century.

Youngest player to score a brace in La Liga history

At 16 years and 213 days the Spanish winger became the youngest player to score a brace in La Liga in a match in which Barcelona were held by Granada in a 3-3 draw.
