Bayern Munich tried to sign Ronald Araujo in every possible way. They were willing to pay 80 million euros for his services. However, the German giants came up against coach Xavi Hernandez.
According to 'The Athletic', the Spanish coach prevented the Uruguayan centre-back from moving to the Allianz Arena in the January transfer window. Xavi, before announcing his resignation, threatened the board with resignation at the end of the season if they transferred the defender.
His plan worked with the board as Araujo continues to play for Barcelona after the winter transfer window. As a result, Thomas Tuchel's side signed Eric Dier to strengthen their defence in January.
Nonetheless, Barcelona did not do as well as expected in sporting terms and Xavi announced that he would be stepping down as coach of the Catalan giants as of 30 June. But Bayern did not move for the Uruguayan even though the coach made his departure official.
