Barcelona defender Mathieu requires knee surgery

Mathieu lasted only 8 minutes after he came on to replace Patrice Evra during France's 4-2 win against Russia, and was taken off after appearing to be in discomfort. 

After the player underwent testing, his club, Barcelona, have confirmed the defender wil need to undergo surgery, in order to repair the partial tear of the meniscus of his right knee.

It has not yet been revealed how long he is going to be sidelined for, but he could be at risk of missing the rest of Barcelona's season, as well as the European Championships this summer.
