Barcelona confirm surgery for injured full-back Gerard Martin

The left-back sustained the injury early in the match and was eventually forced off despite trying to play through the pain. Spain went on to win 3-2, but Martin's tournament is now over.
In an official medical statement released on Friday, Barcelona revealed the player has suffered "a dislocation at the base of the fifth metacarpal of the right hand" and will undergo surgery on Tuesday. The operation will be performed by Dr. Mir under the supervision of the club's medical staff.
Martin initially stayed on the pitch despite clearly being in discomfort after a fall, but was replaced at half-time. Spain's medical team diagnosed the injury immediately after the match, and the player has now returned to Barcelona to prepare for surgery and begin his recovery.
Spain coach Santi Denia will not be able to call up a replacement as the tournament is already underway. Hugo Bueno, on loan at Feyenoord from Wolves, is expected to start at left-back for Saturday's group-stage clash with Romania after stepping in for Martin against Slovakia.
