Barcelona board in crisis after Xavi Hernandez's continuity confirmed

Barcelona's future have done a 180 in a matter of days. From looking for a replacement for Xavi, who had denied on many occasions that he was going to change his mind and leave the club, to the continuity of the Catalan coach until at least 2025.

President and coach will speak jointly on Thursday, from 13.00 hours, to explain the change of decision regarding the future of the club.

Laporta brought together the heavyweights of sporting planning with Xavi at the president's house on Wednesday. There, the final decision was taken to continue with the project led by the current coach.

Of course, it won't be for free. As 'RAC1' stressed, the decision to continue with Xavi at the helm has provoked anger and an internal crisis within the board of directors of the club. Weeks ago, the decision had been taken not to continue with Xavi no matter what happened.

According to the source quoted, Laporta has justified the change of criteria due to the current coach's demand to collect the remaining year of his contract, in the fact that he would have left at the end of the current season, as he has a contract until June 2025.

Jordi Baste, on 'RAC1', reported that the crisis that has broken out in the board of directors could end with a resignation, after the decisions taken at the time were ignored.

There would also be unease about the fact that Rafa Yuste had come out to speak to the media to confirm the decision that Xavi would stay until 2025.

In the meantime, Barcelona have reportedly asked Xavi for several changes for next season, including a change of role for his brother Oscar and better sporting preparation.
