Barca midfielder Fermin will not feature in U21 European Championship

Fermin Lopez has been released from playing in the U21 European Championship. Initially, the Barcelona player was included by Santi Denia in the pre-list of 'la Rojita', but, on Sunday, the Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed that he will not attend the tournament, in which the U21 will debut against Slovakia, the hosts, on June 11th.
In this way, the 'Cules' midfielder will skip the summer double-header and will go on vacation when he finishes his participation in the UEFA Nations League with the senior national team. Luis de la Fuente called him along with 25 other called-up players to face France in the semifinals of the 'Final Four' and for the final or the third or fourth place.
Thus reads the official statement from the RFEF: “Fermin Lopez, included in the first instance in the preparation list for the European Under-21, will not be finally in the event in Slovakia. The FC Barcelona player, who is currently working under the orders of Luis de la Fuente to face the final phase of the UEFA Nations League, will end his season at the end of June”.
The 22-year-old playmaker had not been called up to the Spanish national team since last summer's European Championship. He then played with the Olympic team at the Olympics, where he won gold, and played a match in this 2025 with the U21s. With his club, he has played 2,053 minutes in 46 official matches, with eight goals and nine assists to his credit.
