According to 'Mundo Deportivo', Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is interested in signing Villarreal playmaker Giovani Lo Celso for next season as the Spanish coach wants to reinforce the midfield.

Barcelona are looking to strengthen their midfield following the departure of Sergio Busquets, whose future is still uncertain. Giovani Lo Celso has had a good season at Villarreal, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

Nonetheless, the Catalan side's manager likes the Argentinian's playmaking skills and believes he could fit into his future plans, according to 'Mundo Deportivo'.

The Catalan giants are hoping Ilkay Gundogan will accept their offer to join in the summer. But they are keeping an eye on Villarreal playmaker Alex Baena as an alternative to the German.

The Spaniard has had a superb season at Villarreal, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists in 48 competitive matches.
